Summer in Baltimore

May 4 thru May 6

—Blogpost written by Bob

Saturday, May 4

The major item on our agenda for the day was observing the Baltimore Kinetic Sculpture Race (a race of human powered amphibious sculptures) which came right by our marina on Boston Street.  Below are sixteen photographs (most without captions) that I took of the participants:

One of the requirements for participants is that the
sculptures must be manually powered.

The 14-mile race started in Federal Hill, came around the harbor, up Boston Street to the Canton waterfront where all participants had to navigate on the water.  From there they proceeded to Paterson Park (a few blocks away) where they had to maneuver a mud event.

The annual event is hosted by the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.

Before and after the race, I applied filled epoxy in the unused holes on our hard dodger, completing one of the tasks on my project list.

Today was a complete rainout! I worked on some indoor projects including modifying the teak panel to accommodate our new below-decks chart plotter and relocating our SIRIUS satellite radio. (I managed to do the cutting using my jigsaw while outside in the rain.)

panel arrangement.

The second chart plotter will be designated
as a "slave" to the primary chart
plotter in the cockpit.

Since the SIRIUS satellite radio is now mounted
sideways, we must cock our heads to
the right while reading the dial.
(I felt like sticking out my
tongue in this photo.)

I also mounted some small planters that will be used for new spider plants we are nursing rot life.

We mounted the largest of the two planters (white
cup-like container near bottom right of

We have baby spider plants being nursed
to life in two glasses on the cabintop.

During the rain today an old nagging cabintop leak reoccurred—it was completely absent for our entire winter in Charleston despite lots of rainy days there. So, I wonder why would a geographical location affect a leak?

The rain finally stopped late last night and the sun was a welcome sight this morning. We drove to Annapolis this morning to swap some stuff out in our storage unit, pick up some needed boat supplies at Fawcetts, and run some errands, including grocery shopping.

We got back to the boat at around 3:30 PM and since happy hour was imminent, we didn't start any project work except Maggie's disassembly of the cockpit cushions.

Maggie is disassembling the old cockpit
cushions so that she can reuse
the mesh on the bottom.

Well, that about all for this blogpost.  Stay tuned while we rework aspects of our hard dodger over the next couple of days...

Thanks for following our blog!
