 Autumn in Baltimore

—Blogpost written by Bob

Sunday, October 11

We faced an overcast sky from the get go this morning with rain expected for today and tomorrow, the remnants of Hurricane Delta.  (The rain actually started very late in the day.)

I continued my task of listing three items for sale on eBay and one on Craigslist.  Within 2 hours, our trusty 2 HP Honda outboard motor was sold (on Craigslist), picked up, and paid for.

Our trusty Honda 2 HP outboard was sold
within 2 hours!  I kind of hated to see it
go but we had no room to store
it and no further use for it.

The person who bough our 2 HP outboard intended to use it on a canoe with a flat stern.  Being air-cooled, it only weighs 27 pounds and it probably great for that purpose.  It seemed like I no sooner had listed it and I was walking out to Boston Street to meet the buyer.

I also listed our slightly used Ultra Flip Anchor Swivel on eBay today.  This item may be of interest to our blog readers--it can be found at this link.

ULTRA flip anchor swivel.

For anyone interested, it is model #UFS 8-21, intended for 1/4" or 5/16" chain and for an anchor that weighs less than 46 pounds.

We relaxed and watched football during the afternoon.

Last night, we experienced heavy rain and strong wind as the remnants of Hurricane Delta finally rolled through the area.  The outside temperature was noticeably cooler in the morning.  The rain continued into the day.

----------

We drove to Annapolis to run some errands.  We made a major stop at our storage unit to change out our clothes and pick up a few more things to sell on eBay.  When we returned the boat, I took some more picos my D-700 camera to post on the eBay listing.

The constant rain throughout the day pretty much destroyed any plans we had made.

The sky was still overcast this morning as we got up.  It was cool and damp outside.  I turned the heat up inside the boat to counter the outside weather conditions.  The sun finally came out around 4 PM.

During the damp outside conditions I cleaned my shotgun from shooting sporting clays last week and continued my task of making updates to the various companies with which we have automatic payments.  (I had to change credit cards recently because of a case of fraud on my old card.)

Our helm hasn't been used since returning
to Baltimore on May 2, over 5 months ago.

Wednesday, October 14

Wow!  No rain today!  The outside temperature was cool, cool enough that I wore a sweatshirt at the start of the day.

To start off the day, I took pics to use in an ad for the rental of our Baltimore slip between November 15, 2020 and April 15, 2021, while we are in Annapolis.  (We're just trying to cover our costs.)

In the late morning, we started the refinishing work on the aft port toe rail by rough sanding the worn spots and coating them with Cetol ahead of the major (first) full coating.

We removed the masking tape from the forward port toe rail and worked on filling some joints in the forward port rub rail.  (Many years ago the rub rail had worn badly from contacting a piling during a storm.  I was able to remove the forward section of the toe rail and replace the worn section of the rub rail.)  At this point the filling of the two joints was very rough.  I will allow it to fully cure (couple days) before I sand it smooth.  3M's 4000 UV is a sticky mess to deal with--I used latex gloves and applied the caulk with my fingers.  (Next time I will use a plastic epoxy spreading sheet so that I could better "spooge" the caulk and minimize sanding!)

That's it for this blogpost.  Stay tuned for more toe rail refinishing...
