Winter Onboard in Annapolis

—Blogpost written by Bob

Friday, March 5

The outside temperature dropped to 27 degrees F last night, after a couple warm nights in a row. The high temperature for the day was expected to be only 43 degrees, after hitting well over 50 degrees in the last several afternoons.  Northwest wind in the range of 15 to 20 knots brought in this colder weather (and it WAS noticeably colder this morning!).

Now the end of the work week has meaning for me once again since I don't have to get radiation treatments over the weekend.  Even though they are not uncomfortable at all, the preparation (completely emptying my bowels two hours ahead of time and completely filling my bladder one hour ahead of time) at a given time of day to meet my appointment schedule is a concern.

Damn!  I have to drink 16 ounces of water
in exactly ten minutes from now!

I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining--quite the contrary, I'm glad to have the opportunity to successfully battle my cancer and I realize a lot of people don't have the health care I have.

Today's radiation treatment was scheduled for 11:40 AM (which will be my normally scheduled time) and I have to completely empty my bowels by 9:40 (and I usually take a shower at that time) and then, drink 16 ounces of water at 10:40 AM (which I have interpreted as starting at 10:40 and ending by 10:45 AM).  We have to leave to go to the hospital at exactly 11:25 AM. (We have the drive time down perfectly!)

After my radiation treatment, we went out for lunch at Lemongrass II, a very small Thai restaurant nearby.  As I finished my large serving of KaPow fried rice, we decided to share one of their desserts, lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  After the dessert we both exclaimed "never again" as we often do.

The remainder of the day was rather uneventful except for the delivery of the two pocket knives I had ordered on Amazon.  After opening the packaging and examining both pocket knives I still couldn't decide which one I should keep and which one I should send back--so, I decided to keep both.  To satisfy my frugality, I decided to sell a couple of my old pocket knives on eBay next week.

In preparing to keep both knives, I set out to remove the pocket clips and in the process broke the only TORX T1 bit that I have--it was part of a cheap set of bits.  So, I ordered a set of eight TORX precision screwdrivers on Amazon--they will arrive on Monday.

Saturday, March 6

I woke up in the middle of last night to reduce the level of heat produced by the forward oil-filled radiator because it was getting too warm.  As morning approached, I realized that I turned it down too low and I was getting cold.  In any event, I had a good night's sleep. I was grateful to have two days off from my radiation treatments.

The outside weather was cooler than it had been (29 degrees F overnight and forecasted to reach a high of only 44 degrees F in the afternoon).  We had a light breakfast onboard, heart-shaped Cheerios with blueberries, in my case.  We really didn't have any specific plans for the day.

I spent most of the afternoon reading my latest kindle book from Amazon.  This book is about the life of a free-lance writer who travels around central Mexico doing research for a feature magazine article.  In the end, his editor uses just part of the feature article--the part on Oaxaca.

reading this afternoon.

Sunday, March 7 (My 74th Birthday!)

I can't believe I've lived on this planet for 74 years!  Ever since 2016, I've celebrated my birthdays in faraway places that I could reach by boat, mostly in the Bahamas but one recent year in Charleston SC.  The two birthdays I spent in the Abacos, specifically the first one spent on Green Turtle Cay, were the most memorable.

The outside temperature dropped down into the high 20's last night and today's afternoon high was expected to be reach 45 degrees.

Cover of my latest read

I just finished reading San Miguel de Allende: Memoir of a Sensual Quest for Spiritual Healing by Rick Skwiot as a kindle book from Amazon.  While not my normal type of read I enjoyed the book very much as it brought the local life in San Miguel de Allende to the forefront--it was not just another book about gringos in San Miguel and how they adjusted to Mexico.

Loads of tourists crowded the Annapolis downtown today, even though the outside temperature was not all that warm.  Most, if not all, were wearing face masks--the ones that didn't stood out like a sore thumb and were avoided.

Stay tuned for more of our life's adventure...thanks for following our blog!
