Springtime on Kent Island: 4/5 - 4/8
—Blogpost written by Bob
Monday, April 5
The outside temperature has become a lot more "spring like" today with highs reaching into the mid-60's in the afternoon! The overnight low temperature was in the 50's. The sun was shining brightly and quickly warming up our enclosed cockpit by 9 AM. In our slip, our boat faces westward--so, the morning sun comes into our stern area and we are somewhat shielded from the afternoon sun by our bimini and dodger.

This morning, the olympic-sized swimming pool at the marina was being filled with water by the truckload from an outside business. (It takes 19 truckloads of water to completely fill our marina's pool!)
Fresh water for the marina's olympic size pool was being delivered by tanker truck. |
When we returned from my radiation treatment, I felt a lot of fatigue and simply took an afternoon nap (which lasted until nearly 5 PM). (Fatigue is the only downside of the radiation treatment that I have experienced so far. I'm more than half way through the radiation treatments and anxious for them to end.) So, all the things on my "to do" list (mostly working on the dinghy) for the afternoon got postponed until tomorrow afternoon.

Late in the day I got some interest in buying our green leather loveseat--they are from Waynesboro VA and will come to see it on Saturday! (Because of the anticipated rain over the weekend, our meeting was moved up to Wednesday afternoon.)

The sky was partially cloudy but the sun shone through the clouds as we got moving around. The outside temperature was in the 50's. The sun shone right into the navigation station where I have my laptop setup. Early in the morning another truckload of fresh water arrived for the pool (and as I'm writing this at 9 AM a second truckload has already arrived).

We're not doing so well at training Lola to ride in the car--we keep giving her a pass for the mildest of reasons. (I don't even remember the reasoning for not doing it today--maybe because it was partly cloudy? Then again, we might be perfecting on our "maƱana" attitude for when we move to Mexico this fall.)
We had lunch today at Carroll's Creek Cafe, one of our favorite restaurants in Annapolis. (Here Maggie was contemplating dessert.) |
That was great cheesecake for dessert! (I would say I was a bit slow taking this photograph!) |
Traffic was very light on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge early this afternoon. When we returned to the boat, we filled our fresh water tanks and then cleaned the outside of the dinghy. About 2:30 PM my fatigue kicked in and a nap was in order. (We need to give it a second cleaning in spots tomorrow afternoon.)
In the afternoon, the air conditioner kicked on to cool our boat's cabin. This time of year, we still need heat at night and cooling sometimes during the day. (We currently have our A/C set so it will provide air conditioning or heat as needed.)
Wednesday, April 7
Another beautiful spring day was in store for us again today with an expected high temperature of 68 degrees F with virtually no chance of rain!
As of this morning, the marina's pool was completely filled. (Now we just have to wait for much warmer weather.)

After my radiation treatment and my normal Wednesday meeting with the radiation oncologist (to check for harmful side effects), we drove to our storage unit to meet up with the potential buyer for our green leather loveseat. (I've always liked this leather loveseat and I hope it is not a mistake selling it.) The buyers were right on time and took the green leather loveseat. I feel that it went to a good home where it will be appreciated.
After the buyers left we put the things (that we removed for getting the loveseat out) back into our storage unit. We hardly noticed the reduction in volume of stored stuff by the removal of the loveseat. (We have to keep working on this!)
Thursday, April 8
Today was a day like any other lately--do my prep, drive to Annapolis for my radiation treatment, have lunch out (this time at Lemongrass), and drive home to Kent Island. For some reason I didn't keep up with my blog during the day as usual and re-creating it after the fact is always more difficult.
We turned the dinghy upside down on the nearby dock so that we can eventually work on the bottom paint. (I'm hoping that the rain over the next few days will continue to remove some of the old flaking bottom paint.)
----------
One more day to this week...stay tuned! Thanks for following our blog!
