Springtime on Kent Island: 5/14 - 5/18

—Blogpost written by Bob

Friday, May 14

Taking several hours of my Friday morning, I re-assembled the shelf area next to the navigation station.  (It was dissembled so that I could attempt to removed the leaking auxiliary diesel tank but I had to abandon the effort without success.)  Of course, Lola had to crawl into the area as part of her cat inspection.

The shelf that had to be re-assembled is
located just adjacent to the seat
in the navigation station.

One of the projects on our agenda is to reduce the thickness of the backrest on the navigation seat.  At its current thickness it is difficult for me to get my legs around the companionway steps and into the area under the navigation table.

Lately, two weeks after my radiation treatments for prostate cancer, I have felt a lot better.  My walking stride has improved dramatically and I've been sleeping much better.  I'm almost back to normal, discounting the fact that I'm six months older than when I started this whole thing.

Today was a beautiful spring day with clear skies and full sunshine.  The outside temperature reached 70 degrees F this afternoon!

Saturday, May 15

The sun was out in full force again today, right from the day's beginning.  The afternoon high is expected to be around 70 degrees F again today.

Maggie did a little more mold abatement today, focusing on the enclosed shelves on the port side of the boat where we store most of our pantry items.  It is amazing how much mold we have removed!  (Next winter when our boat's in storage and there is no internal source of heat, less mold will accumulate because there will be much less condensation.)

We are preparing to go full KETO!  (I plan to start on our KETO diet on Tuesday when Maggie leaves to visit her second oldest daughter in Chicago and she plans to start when she returns on the following Tuesday.)  Consequently, we have been buying a few KETO cookbooks (mostly as kindle books but one as a spiral bound edition) and I downloaded an app on my iPad to track my results.

One of the most interesting cookbooks I have
purchased is The Mexican KETO Cookbook:
50 Easy Mexican Recipes
(Kindle edition).

Today for lunch, Maggie made zucchini

pizza boats (KETO style) and

they turned out great!

This afternoon I planned our fall road trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.  I planned for four stops along the way: Knoxville TN, Biloxi MS, Loredo TX, and Matehaula, Mexico, all with pet-friendly accommodations nearby.  The last two days will be within Mexico and they are planned at 4-1/2 hours each day while the U.S. driving is broken up into three equal days of approximately 600 miles (10 hours) each.

Sunday, May 18

The overcast sky in the early morning burned off about mid-morning and the sun came out to stay all day.  The 12-knot breeze out of the west kept the day cool for the most part.

We drove to Annapolis at mid-morning to run some errands. including grocery shopping at Fresh Market, picking up a piece of 2-inch thick foam for remaking the backrest for the navigation station seat at JoAnn's, and having one of our last non-KETO lunches at Italian Market.

containers at Fresh Market.

When we returned to the boat I pulled off the masking tape from our dinghy bottom painting and hoisted our new (3-foot by 5-foot) American flag up our backstay.

A little pretty red fishing boat
docked to our port.
