Summertime on Kent Island: 9/3 - 9/5

Seven to fifteen knots of wind from due north accompanied the 67-degree morning outside temperature. The sun was shining brightly. It was like an early fall day in the making. It reminded me of days spent in preparation to sail south and of the sailboat show in Annapolis (something I'm going to miss this year). The wind died down as the day progressed and it got a little warmer.

Continuing from yesterday, I made more photographs of the two pocket multi tools to be sold on eBay, as well as the used wind instrument. I used my iPad for the photographs--it worked great. (I love how the large detailed screen of the iPad formed the viewfinder for the photographs!)

The Raymarine ST-60+ wind instrument that I photographed and put up for sale this morning on eBay. |
The three items I placed eBay ads for were as follows: (1) a Raymarine ST-60+ wind instrument, (2) a Leatherman WAVE pocket multi tool, and (3) a SOG-brand multi tool I used a pair of my bright red swim trunks as the backdrop for all the photos, though you would never know it. (Later in the day I found another pocket knife, a SOG Woodline, that I could sell on eBay--it is now listed for sale as well. Altogether, the four listings will bring in just under $400, not a lot of money but, for the most part, these were things I no longer used or needed. We need to do more of this!)

Late in the afternoon, we mounted the upper piling guard on the second piling near our boat. The tide was not low enough for us to mount the lower piling guard this afternoon--it will have to wait later when the tide is sufficiently low. (We still use our boat fenders in conjunction with the new piling guards.)

Today was a beautiful sunny fall day, cool in the morning but it warmed up into the mid-70's in the afternoon. It was more like an early October day. In the morning, Kali had her first car ride (just around town as we were running errands) as a training exercise for driving to Mexico--she did extremely well! Lola didn't want to go at all--I don't know how we are going to train her (but we will be persistent).

At noon we went over to the nearby tavern, the Pour House, to get lunch and watch the Penn State-Wisconsin game on TV. (Satellite TV provides the only successful TV reception on Kent Island.) The game was scoreless at the end of the first half and Penn State scored first early in the third quarter just after we returned to the boat. Back at the boat I listened to the last half on our onboard satellite radio (while Maggie went shopping at the nearby outlets). The season opening defensive struggle ended with a score of 16 to 10 with Penn State winning!

I got an email from eBay indicating that my Leatherman WAVE multi tool sold today--it will be shipped to its new owner in Colorado on Tuesday (the next day that the post office will be open for business).

Today was another beautiful fall-like day in the lower to mid 70’s with a light breeze out of the south southwest, a direction we seldom feel the effects. The sun was frequently poking through a fairly heavy cloud cover in the morning while our two cats enjoyed their (supervised) outside time. (Kali, currently at a few days over four months old, is still restricted to the cockpit though she we love to follow Lola all around the outside deck.)

My breakfast included a fresh yellow peach which was in season--it was perfectly ripe! |

The last of Maggie's three extra large crabs for today's lunch. |
Heavy cloud cover dominated the afternoon's and evening's weather. Back at the boat, Maggie did some sewing and I worked on lists for our upcoming trip to Mexico as we listened to Yacht Rock Radio (Channel 70 on Sirius). The afternoon slowly drifted away with the smooth rock music...
