Back in Baltimore

May 15 thru May 18

—Blogpost written by Bob

Tuesday, May 15

We both woke up this morning, asking ourselves “Where are we today?” It seems like we’ve been on the move for a long time now.

We picked up our car from long-term storage and headed to our storage unit in Annapolis to pick up a few things we needed over the next couple days. (Fortunately, I picked up my jig saw and my Fein saw.) From there, we went to Fawcetts thinking we would order our new stove. However, Fawcetts had it in stock! We brought it back to the boat with us and installed it this afternoon.

I had to cut 1-1/2 inches off each side of the door frames for the lower 24” to get the old stove out and the new stove into position. (Do you believe that the stove was originally installed before the boat assembly was completed?) Rather than try to fit the old pieces of the door frame back into place, I think I’m going to remake the entire frame as a wider opening since we no longer use a door on this opening.

The Force Ten #66351 (North American standard) was a perfect drop in replacement for our old HILLERANGE stove—we did not have to modify the gimbal points at all, in fact we used the old gimbal hardware.

Installing our new stove was not even in our
plans for the day but we completed the job.

While in Annapolis we also picked up a lot of little things ($150 worth!) from PetsMart for our new little kitty. (She’s going to be sooo spoiled!) Before heading back to Baltimore, we had lunch at Italian Market, our favorite pizza restaurant.

Tomorrow, we drive to Pennsylvania and pick up our new kitty.

Wednesday, May 16

We left at 7 AM. It took us four hours, driving in the rain, to get to the cattery in Kresgeville, Pennsylvania.  When we arrived we were introduced to Lola.  Right away, she cuddled up to me while sitting on a sofa.

This was our first meeting with Lola on the sofa
at the cattery.  She was very affectionate
right from the start. A real lap cat!

We drove four hours back to Baltimore (again, in the rain) and got back around 4 PM. It was an all day effort.  Lola was awake for most of the trop home and stayed in her carrier (with the door open during her first evening at her new home).  She came out of her carrier during the night and did a little exploring.

Thursday, May 17

This morning I lured Lola out of her carrier with some treats.  She came out willingly and played for at least an hour, devouring treats mixed in with her playtime.  She ate some of Jack's wet food.  She used the litter box at some point during the night or early this morning.

Lola is very affectionate and
has a loud purr motor!

She seems to be adapting to her new home quite well--actually I'm surprised how quickly she is adapting!

Lola is a long skinny kitten--she's going
to be a very large cat someday!

She's good at finding little spaces to sleep.

So far, she is resistant to making friends with Captain Jack, who is so eager to please her.

Friday, May 18

It’s another rainy day!  Captain Jack and Lola seemed to be getting along better this morning.  She lures him into approaching her, then she growls at him. Silly cat behavior!  We removed the pet carrier this morning and re-established a different place of refuge for her, complete with one of my fleece shirts as bedding.  She is full of energy and is still a little klutzy...and very affectionate.

This morning, I replaced the burned up cockpit coaming box.  If you recall, when operating our RAINMAN water maker, I positioned the unit without respect for the hot exhaust and it burned up an area of our cockpit coaming box as shown below:

This was the cockpit coaming box before replacement.

This is the replacement cockpit coaming box.

The project took about 1-1/2 hours, mostly because the sealant I previously used was very tenacious and the pattern of the screw holes in the replacement coaming box was not exactly the same as the old coaming box, even though they were duplicate parts.

It rained all day today and there is very little we could do outside.  So, we spent a lot of time with Lola, helping her to adapt to boat life.

This is Lola's second day of boat life.
I think she is adapting quite well.

Hopefully we will have better weather and will be digging into the long list of boat projects over the next couple days and weeks...

Thanks for following our blog!
