Springtime on Kent Island: 6/18 - 6/20

—Blogpost written by Bob

Friday, June 18

Friday was yet another beautiful Spring day although expected to be a little warmer (83 degrees F) in the afternoon.  Maggie and I talked about our kitten experience yesterday and we both still feel like we made the right choice of a kitten (which is always a good sign after sleeping on a decision).

Our agenda for the day included driving to Crofton to pick up one of Maggie quilts that were professionally quilted (the overlaid pattern of stitching on the squares that Maggie made).  From there, we intended to drive back to Annapolis to stop at our storage unit and then go out for lunch at Lemongrass II where we could easily stay on our (KETO) diet (just by not ordering  rice).

Lola was glad to be outside after being
restricted to the boat interior
all morning. (She is such
a sweet cat!)

I spent more time today re-working our travel plan to Mexico for the fall.  I reduced our day's mileage from 600 miles to 500 miles and shortened our first day's trip even more.  This added a day to our overall trip but hopefully will make it more comfortable.

Saturday, June 19

A bit of sunshine preceded the overcast sky that would be around all day.  I made a trip to our little nearby Post Office in Chester to pick up some packages that had been delivered from Amazon, among them was a new leather punch that I needed to make the holes in the reinforced area of the backrests in the cockpit.

We needed to buy this leather punch on Amazon
in order to punch holes through the
reinforced areas of the
backrests.

Previously we had pulled the old snaps out and Maggie reinforced the areas around the snap locations with 2 layers of Sunbrella fabric inside.

Maggie reinforced the areas around the snaps on
our backrests, adding two layers of Sunbrella
inside and a lot of heavy stitching
which shows on the outside.

As we reassembled the cockpit cushions and installed them into place we were careful to add zipper and snap lubricant to the snaps so that they would snap and unsnap easier.

----------

I made a KETO pizza for lunch, using a whole wheat low-carb tortilla as the crust--it was delicious!  I'm getting better with each one I make.  Today's toppings included diced green peppers, diced tomatoes, and sliced pepperoni.

The book cover of the book
I just finished today.

For the past couple of days or so I've been reading Madam Speaker: Nancy Pelosi and the Lessons of Power (Kindle Edition) by Susan Page.  The book is a biography of Nancy Pelosi and describes her upbringing in a political family in Baltimore, her move to the West Coast, and her start in politics at age 46 after raising her family.  This book is an excellent read and uncovers many things I did not know previously.

Sunday, June 20 (First Day of Summer)

Sunny but muggy described the day today.  The afternoon temperature was expected to reach 85 degrees (and it may have exceeded that temperature).  First thing in the morning, I filled our fresh water tanks since we were on our last and smallest tank, the starboard tank.

----------

Lola shadowed me the entire time I was filling the tanks.  Seeing all the kittens a few days ago has made me think more about Lola's background--she grew up in the same cages.  We both think that she was the kitten that stayed back away from visitors, which is why she was the last one of the litter taken.  She turned out to be an excellent cat, maybe not the most adventurous but the most loyal and the sweetest.

It made me think about what qualities do we want in our new cat.  Perhaps the rambunctious one we picked will be a nice contrast to Lola.  Or do we want one with a personality like Lola?

Late in the evening we decided to change our kitten selection to one of the all-black females to be a better match for Lola.

The kitten we ultimately selected as Kali.

Until our next blogpost, thanks for following our blog!
