Summertime on Kent Island: 6/21 - 6/24

—Blogpost written by Bob

Monday, June 21 (First Full Day of Summer)

The first full day of summer started out overcast and muggy.  Even though it was very muggy outside, the rain wasn't expected until late in the afternoon.  (Rain was in the forecast for tomorrow as well.)

Our propane tank ran out while I was making hot water for my morning tea!  Not even thinking about the fact that there are residential houses all around us, I went outside in my underwear and changed propane tanks.  I came back inside and resumed my efforts on my (minuscule) KETO breakfast.  (Depending on how much cooking we do, our 10-pound propane tanks last about a month. We have two tanks on board in our propane locker.)

New Kali, indicating what she thinks
about being a model. (She had
taken a real liking to Maggie
last Thursday! We pick
her up on August 9.)

Today started out with absolutely no agenda because of the rain expected in the afternoon and the complete lack of indoor boat projects. I got caught up on a lot of reading during the day.

Over the past couple weeks we have had problems with small ants, first appearing on our galley sink and then in our pantry.  We have used TERRO ant killer to try to tackle the problem, with mixed success.

An excellent low-carb Margarita
using Baja Bob's Margarita
Mix for a perfect Happy
Hour onboard.

For dinner I made a low-carb pizza using a low-carb whole wheat tortilla as the crust.  The pizza contained diced green pepper, diced fresh parsley, chopped onions, sliced pepperoni, one shaved garlic clove, Italian seasoning, some chopped jalapeƱos, lots of mozzarella cheese, and Rao's Margherita pizza sauce on the very bottom.

It rained all day!  We decided to make a road trip to Annapolis to run some errands, among them were dropping off one of Maggie's quilts for stitching, shipping another quilt to one of her daughters, picking up a name tag for Kali at PetsMart, and having lunch out.

Rain was coming down heavily while we were at
the Legion Street Post Office in Annapolis.

We ended up having lunch at Outback in Annapolis.  We were soaking wet and it was cold the entire time in Outback.  We drove back to the boat after lunch at we were glad to be warm again.

Nice warm (KETO) peanut butter
cookies right out of the oven!

We had planned to make a road trip to Cape May, NJ today as a little vacation day.  We left at 8:45 AM to catch the 11:15 AM departure of the Cape May-Lewis Ferry.  The ferry took 85 minutes to get across the Delaware Bay to Cape May.

The weather was mild and beautiful, but windy and almost too chilly for a day at the beach.  We went out for lunch at the Lobster House, a traditional old seafood restaurant in Cape May--it dates back to 1922!

I captured the following images throughout our day in Cape May:

This fish market and take out was next door
to the Lobster House Restaurant.

Small smooth stones collect on Sunset Beach.
They are referred to as "Cape May Diamonds."
I remember collecting these as a young kid.

United States.)

Today we ran some errands on Kent Island which we would normally have done in Annapolis.  We picked up a Simple Green cleanser refill at West Marine—we were still surprised at how big and how well stocked the West Marine store was.  We stopped by a small seafood market in Grasonville—the prices were great but the seafood didn’t appear fresh enough for my tastes.  From there, we went to the outlets in Queenstown but purchased very little--what we did purchase we planned to return.  On our way back to the boat, we stopped at a nearby gas station to refill our propane tank—this is where we ran into some outright rudeness on the (Shell) service station attendant's part.  He didn’t want to fill our propane tank while he had so many gasoline customers (who were all using the self-serve pumps) due to a traffic backup on westbound Route 50.  We left without refilling our tank and vowed never to buy anything from that gas station ever again.

Before going to bed, for the second night in a row, I coated my upper torso with Skin-So-Soft to keep whatever bugs have been biting me at bay.  So, far it seems to have worked.

Until next blogpost, thanks for following our blog!
