Summer Life in Baltimore

We awoke to bright sunshine this morning for the what seems like the first time in weeks! The first thing on our agenda this morning was turning our boat end-for-end in the slip. We had two people from the marina helping us since there was a tricky wind pushing us around. (When you have very little boat speed, you also have very little steerage. It was good to have the extra hands on dock to pull us back into the slip once we turned around under power. The wind seemed to have other ideas for us.)
Rainy Days turned end-for-end in the slip. It's nice to be able to move your home 180 degrees for a little different view! |
Anyway, we got it done and got the C&C stars on the port side taped off and the first coat of flag blue paint applied by noon.
In the early afternoon, I sanded several worn spots on the port toe rail and applied the first of two coats of Cetol to the worn areas.
----------
We found out this afternoon that our winter dockage in Charleston City Marina has been finalized! We are really looking forward to being in Charleston SC for the winter!
----------
Late in the afternoon I applied the second coat of flag blue paint to the C&C stars. In the early evening I pulled the tape off and re-positioned the boat for ease of getting on and off. We accomplished a lot today!

The settlement of our car's damages continues without a satisfactory conclusion. Allstate (the insurance company responsible for the payment) is offering us a value that is equivalent to an average trade in value--we can't replace our car for this amount of money. So, we are declining the offer and pushing for more money even if it takes longer.

Every once in a while I get the feeling that we don't have much to show for our lives (materially). We no longer have our house in Annapolis and all the "stuff" it contained. It doesn't help that our car has recently been wrecked. But the feeling doesn't last very long since we have everything we need. The sense of freedom that we have is immense.
----------
We drove to Annapolis to do some errands today. We stopped by the place where our wrecked car is located and picked up the last of our things from the car. We also got an appraisal using an online source (NADA) where the retail cost of our car is much higher that Allstate offered us--so, we went back to Allstate with our new appraisal.
----------
While in Annapolis, we stopped for lunch at Lemongrass II, a locally owned Thai restaurant that we like very much.

Today was mostly overcast and cool, never even hitting 80 degrees.
----------
One of my accomplishments today was to list my little Nikon 1 V1 camera for sale on eBay. I was always comparing the photos taken with it to those taken with my much larger Nikon D700 and there was no comparison in quality. So, getting rid of it made a lot of sense to me.

I also researched alloy wheels for our recently purchased 2015 Prius. I found a nice set of four online for about $100 each.
The new alloy wheels we selected for our newer Prius. The alloy wheels are a simple splurge that is considerably short of buying a sporty Jaguar. |
I’m going to wait until we’ve completely settled matters on our old car and we’ve taken possession of our new car before buying them. I had considered merely changing out the wheels from our old car to our new one but I don’t think that would work out.
Pizza night by the pool at Anchorage Marina. |
We attended Pizza Night by the pool in the evening. Because it is os late in the season, there weren't many people there. The pizza was great! Maggie and I talked about getting a plant for the boat--one that we can hang outside in the cockpit enclosure during the winter in Charleston SC.

I was up until the wee hours of this morning listening to the Penn State football game--Penn State beat Illinois 63-24 in an unusual Friday night game. (It was a close game up until the middle of the third quarter.) This morning was sunny and cool as we ate a light breakfast at the boater's lounge.
Outside of Kooper's Tavern, a street vendor was setup to sell oysters on the half shell at $1 each. |
Fells Point has many outdoor dining options as well as some unique shops. |
